Cardinal Badminton First Flight Tournament

Cardinal Badminton is proud to announce it's debut tournament! This event is an Open (C, D, E) all doubles disciplines (XD, MD, WD) tournament.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT - $1,500 PRIZE POOL

• Mixed Doubles (XD) at C/D/E divisions

• Men's Doubles (MD) at C/D/E divisions

• Women's Doubles (WD) at C/D/E divisions

• Unsure about your level or what division you should enter? Email us with any questions.

• Nationally ranked, A-level, and B-level players are respectfully asked to not participate in this event. We appreciate your eagerness but kindly ask that you wait for later events to join us!

TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE

• June 6th, 2026 and June 7th, 2026

  • XD (all divisions) will be on June 6th

  • MD and WD (all divisions) will be on June 7th

• A full schedule with Round 1 matches will be sent to registrants the week of the tournament

TOURNAMENT ENTRY FEE - $99.99 per pair per event

• Only one player per pair is required to sign up and pay the event registration fee

  • In the event registration form, you will be asked to provide the name and contact details of you and your doubles partner

• Players are allowed to register in one division per discipline, and up to two events in total

  • Registration of different divisions in different disciplines must be adjacent

  • For example: XD-D & MD-E / WD-C & XD-D / XD-C & MD-D

• A player can only sign up their pair once per form; to register for an additional event, you must complete a separate sign-up

• You will not be allowed to sign up as a solo player/looking for partner player/stand-in

CANCELLATION POLICY

• Registration for the event will close May 30th, 2026

• Cancellation of your registration before May 30th, 2026 will incur $10.00 fee

• Cancellation of your registration between May 30th and June 6th, 2026 are non-refundable

• A waitlist system will be used once events hit capacity; any cancellations will result in the next available entries being able to register

• Pairs who no-show without cancelling their registrations prior to the start of the tournament may be banned from future Cardinal Badminton events

PLAYER EXPECTATIONS

• Indoor non-marking court/athletics shoes are required to participate in this event

• Players are required to check-in at the Staging Desk no later than 30 minutes before their declared match start time; players are expected to report to the Staging Desk when called to begin pre-match procedures

• Players are expected to walk around the outside of the court area while matches are going on; players are not allowed to walk in-between court areas while matches are being played

• A walk-over victory goes into effect if a pair does not show up within 5 minutes of their scheduled match start time

• Self-umpiring will be in effect for all matches except for all divisions of the Championship matches

• All relevant BWF Statutes under Section 2 (Player Code of Conduct) are in effect

• Due to not having a service judge or service height device, BWF Statute 4.1.4 "ALTERNATIVE LAWS OF BADMINTON" Rule 9.1.6.a "ALTERNATIVE SERVICE LAWS" will be in effect:

  • "9.1.6 a) the whole shuttle shall be below the server’s waist at the instant of being hit by the server’s racket. The waist shall be considered to be an imaginary line round the body, level with the lowest part of the server’s bottom rib"

• Calls must be made promptly and clearly, using standard verbal ("In" or "Out") or hand signals (hand down for in, hands out to the side for out)

• In the event of a disagreement, players should briefly confer in good faith to resolve the situation.

• If no agreement is reached, the rally should be replayed (let).

• A full list of tournament rules and regulations will be made available the week of the tournament
